Great New Arrivals, Plus The Crookedness Of Music Retailers

Good day to you good People! We have a plethora of new instruments, to share with you. Please let me begin by offering my apologies for being such a sorry and unreliable blogger, as I have failed to keep you updated every week. Between answering phones, entertaining customers, packing and unpacking, putting up and taking down, along with trying to keep up with videos, I don’t know where the days go.

We have a few nice arrivals from Bourgeois, a Heritage D with Italian spruce top, and all torrefied mahogany/ Adirondack dread. Additionally, we have a great Boucher BG-52-BG, a Martin D-28 Marquis from 2005, a modern Martin D-35, a Tim McKnight Skeeter small body with black cherry back/ sides and cedar top, a Collings D2 HR custom sunburst, and lots more. We have also sold several which didn’t make it to the website, including a Gallagher G50 60th Anniversary edition, a Bourgeois Country Boy Deluxe, which was made for Bryan Sutton, and a nice 2025 Martin D-18 Custom Shop Sinker Mahogany, that was an Empire Music Exclusive. As always, be sure to check the Shop Page for all the latest arrivals, as we often release them here with a video demo prior to making them public on YouTube.

I got a call earlier this week from a gentleman in New York, who had some question about doing a trade (dreadnought for OM), and the saga which unfolded in our conversation served to remind me to remind you that, while unfortunate as it is, not everyone maintains friendly and positive business practices. Now don’t get me wrong here, I’m not going to sit behind this keyboard and pound my chest like the scribes and pharisees, and talk about how great I am, and what a despicable sinful businessman old so and so is… However, while sometimes people may get chafed and not like my answers to questions as they relate to a certain instrument’s value, my objective is to 1, offer fare prices, and 2, give you fare value on a trade or consignment. In a perfect world, you’ll make more than you paid for something, but that world is somewhat elusive, and can only be found by those who became Mario Brothers experts on the old Nintendo. It is more likely that you can’t purchase an instrument from a factory in 2024, and hope to get all your money back in 2025.

Having told you this, I will also tell you that in this same scenario, you should never just give it away! The gentleman I referenced, had bought a new guitar in January for $5500, decided he had better stick with smaller body instruments, and went back to the store where he had made his purchase. Upon arrival, they informed him they would give him $1800 trade value on this two-month-old perfect condition instrument, which they sold him two months ago for $5500. Not give him $1800 cash mind you, but $1800 trade value. Folks, if I can’t do you better than that, then someone please go get a rope, feathers, a bucket of hot tar, and just put it to me… In the vernacular of a simple man like me, a store or individual who operates in such a fashion as this is called a crook. Now there are people who I hate doing business with; I know some who will buy a guitar from me for $5000 this month, and come back and want to sell it to me for $6000 next month. Likewise, I have been on the end of taking a defeat on trade value, and probably have a few of those pieces in my inventory right now. Having said all of that, we never will offer such a low price of $1800 trade on a $5500 instrument to you, unless you damaged it a crazy amount. So be diligent when trading and selling. If you don’t like my price, then check around; it’s really just that simple. Do what is best for you, and puts the most happiness in your heart, and money in your pocket.
